That'll be because you (assumingly) have the original stereo still ;)

I'm having a very similar problem with the radio on the red car, it intermitently has no volume on FM, the stereo indicator goes out and you have to turn the volume up even to get a faint sound out of it, even though the signal strength meter will be at full. MW still works fine when it does this, but then it'll gradually come back in and you have to turn it down and then after about 5 minutes once the volume is at normal levels then the stereo light will come back on.

Chris and I have discussed it, but won't really know till I get a chance to take it apart and see what I can see.

Basically... the answer I came up with initially is a PLL not getting the right clock straight away, but it doesn't seem likely, even after the few pints that have been consumed. I'll have a think about it, but not promising anything, I have no idea how volvo made the stereos work I'm afraid!

One thing I can say... you're prolly not missing out too much in sound quality *ducks*

Well the radio is rarely used anyway, but the quality anin't too bad really. Even the most expensive system in a car with engine noise, road noise, wind noise and traffic noise isn't going to sound great :)

Radio is useless in car, you have to keep it so loud that ears start to bleed if you like to hear from it. No sir, I do have not very loud exhaust, it is just moderate :D

I'm sure the Dynaudio, or whatever the top of the range thing's called, sounds great when your parked in your garage, but when your driving around, the background noise will degrage whatever radio you've got.

Anyway, who cares how good the sound quality of the news is :P And around here, all the hills mean bad FM coverage anyway. Meh

Yeah, thats true - but on a modern, well insulated car - the external noise from the road and wind is lessened somewhat!

The new C30 is supposedly going to be used Dynaudio, previous to that I think all the stuff was Alpine. And Radio? Jeez...

Sound insulation? What's that :P

I'm not much of a music person, especially when driving. Just the occasional bit of local radio

Hatch, there are 4 screw mounting behind those panels, even if you have to make up some mdf adaptor plates, you can basically put what you want there.

MJ, you'll be surprised what a difference a decent stereo makes, have a listen to mine/Foggies/Steve/Pettaw's (and many others ;)) ok, they arn't going to touch a decent home amp hooked up to a pair of good missions on stands in a perfect room, but they some arn't that far off to most peoples ears, and they are clear and well defined too a volume level that is comfy (although... most of us run them slightly above that  )

I have a good clarity of sound in Kar on the motorway with the windows open ;), only just finished Fakes, but it should sound better still, but I think I might have blown the amp yesterday, nothing like as good as my V12 in Kar.

Dekay, you know how much I paid for my V12??? And it wasn't stolen :P

Dave, I was quite impressed with your last setup... is the new lower end range of Blaupunkt stuff pretty dire? I think your previous model was a 50 something (the middle of their range) like mine?

this is probably down to the shared earth connection on the stock radios, if it's only coming through n mono, it may only come through at half volume.

Has your stereo got a pan pot on it? does that effect the level aswell as the pan?

and steve, yeah, my last setup was a blaupunkt valencia CD52, which was cracking, but cost the scary side of £250 when it was new (a good 5 and a half years ago!) the new one is a "brighton MP32" which wasn't much over a ton, so it's to be expected that it's not as good, but it really does suck by comparison, the old one had to go though, the contacts for the facia where buggered, and it was a fun game trying to get it to do anything other than turn off when you breathed near it
