why o why :? :? , the renix is the best ignition there is on a stock 300 series engine and 9 out of 10 times it is a faulty diagnose that makes people do stupid things like this

anyhow, at the left between the strut and battery you'll find a 3wire loom; orange, blue and grey. the grey wire is from the tacho and goes to your rev counter, where you should connect it on the "new" ignition; i don't know..

Thank you for the bump kind spambot.

I may aswell high jack this thread than start a new one.

My Rev counter most of the time just doesn't register correctly. Mostly it under reads, at idle it sometimes won't move, other times it will show 500 when it's clearly idling smoothly and normally. When you floor it the needle will go to about 3k then just not really bother doing much after that. On the rare occasion it does work it still doesn't kkep up with the engine speeds.

Any ideas, time for a new speedo or simple dodgy electrics?

There is only one place to put it, on the wire between the points and the coil. Most systems work by fixed 12V on the primary, with the points pulling the ground in and out on the other side. Find the 12v feed and attach to the other one.

We need more details to work out the appropriate module, but if its been modified perhaps for low octane unleaded fuel you don't know what has been done. Do you know the exact engine type, expected compression ratio, are there 2 gaskets, what year is it?

Not much to go wrong between the coil and the tacho if the engine is running ok, sounds like you need a new tacho.
