How to get my door handle back in? - '88 1.7 340.

Took my handle out earlier... It'd fallen apart a bit but it's fixed now (the pivot bit that pulls the door opening rod had fallen out).

Problem is, I'm not so sure how to get it back in again? All I removed was the inside door card and then undid the screw holding the handle in and slid the plastic cover out of the way.

Can't seem to get it back in though! I'm wondering if I need to attach the rods first (seems like it'd be very difficult!) and then put the whole thing in, or if I need to put it in and then attach the rods; Which seems impossible (fat hands).

Any tips? Need to get it sorted tomorrow if possible...

Thanks:)

Yes you need to attach the rods and feed them in first, ie attach the rods to the handle not the lock. It is nearly impossible to get the clips on the handle once its in, much easier to pop in the lock end which is just a plastic holder.

I didn't attach the rods first, but make sure they are pointing downwards (if they are on the doorhandle itslef)
And then patience and a lot of wobbling, there's a trick in it which you have to find out by doing it

Ahh cool... So far I've been trying with the rods attached to the door lock thing, not the handle.. I'll try the other way round this afternoon; Rods attached to handle, dangled down into door, and clipped into place at the bottom (lock) end.

Thanks:)

Got it back in just now... Rods attached to handle and dangled down, then clipped into their places on the door mech thing.Had to undo the nut at the bottom of the window channel and pull it out of the way too, it was right in the way of the lower rod attaching bits. Fiddley job!

Thanks:)
