[URGENT] Water in the boot

Post by volvo_850_GLT » 30 Oct 2010 06:56 pm

Hi,

What are the most common places for water entering the boot?????

The space for the spare tire is full of water.

Regards

Do you have rear spoiler? If you do, the most common leak is where the spoiler bolts go through the hatch. If you don't have a spoiler I would check the hatch seal, it could leak also.

Easy test - sit in the boot and get your mate to chuck some water over the car. Leak found!

Depends what year and type, there are 2 versions of hatchback window (bonded and rubber sealed), and of course the saloon is quite different.

Pull the boot seal off and check it and the gutter channel all the way round. Sometimes small rust holes can appear in this, or the seal can just be perished, or the metal in the seal grip rusted/broken/bent. The bonded window should be pretty reliable unless rust has crept through, but a rubber window seal can leak quite easily, especially if there is rust in the recess. The rubber sealed window and seal can be removed by pushing the window with feet slowly from the inside.

As mentioned its best to try and detect the leak to narrow down the work.

Don't forget to check for water coming in through the seals on the rear light clusters.
