speedo cable

Speedo cable where does it go at opposite end of the clocks is there a bracket I am missing. As it was not conneced when I bought the car

Sorry, do you mean where it attaches to the wheel hub or the clocks themselves?

It goes through the middle of the hub from the back, insert the cable into the back as far as it will go. Then take the dust cover off the front of the hub. This should have a hole in the middle or something poking through said hole.

This piece poking through needs to be attached to the end of the cable which should have poked all the way through the middle of the hub to the front.

Once the bit is on the end of the cable, poke it back through the dust cap and re-attach the dust cap. Spin the wheel hub making sure that the pokey-out-bit is spinning with the hub. Should now work.

If any of these pieces are missing, you know your problem! If you have any more trouble, pictures will help.

There should be a circlip holding the end piece into the dust cap. Its not essential, but can bring on wear of the square drive hole or drive pin if its missing.

The relevant section is in the Electrical Systems part of the Haynes.
