HATCHBACK DOOR BARRELL?

Post by Justin » 20 Dec 2010 05:04 pm

How is the rear door barrell/lock on a hatchback Volvo 340 retained in its hole as mine came out today? Im assuming the frozen weather caused it to come out with the key as it's never happened before? I removed the plastic plate on the inside back of the door to have a look at how its attached on the back, it doesnt appear that the barrell is bolted to hold it in place, it just seems to sit loosely inside the tubular channel. Maybe I need to pack it with grease to hold it in place?

Any ideas anyone?

I believe there's a circlip but one of mine suffered the same problem and I just lived with it LOL.

Im assuming that circlip went on the back of the little metal disc that turns the latch open and shut. The chances of finding it are obviously very slim!

Very slim yeah. I just used to hold the barrel in with my thumb as I pulled the key out.

AT THE BACK OF THE BARREL THERE IS A VERY TINY C-CLIP THAT HOLDS THE BARREL IN PLACE, YOUR BEST BET IS A COMPLETE LOCK ASSEMBLY FROM A BREAKER, SO YOU CAN SWAP THE CLIP OVER.

How would I go about getting the lock assembly out? Im assuming I'd remove the plastic central cover on the inside of the rear door and then remove the four bolts that hold it in place, then I can do it "Off-Site" as it were...
