front door removal

Post by bogbasic » 28 Feb 2011 02:07 am

Hello, I am trying to remove the driver's door on a 360 by tapping out the hinge pins with a removal tool, but the punch has got jammed inside the hinge pin, wedging it even more firmly in place. Is it possible to remove the door by unbolting the hinge, like you can with the rear doors. I haven't looked around the front door pillar much yet, just curious if anyone hints and tips, links, etc. Thanks.

Knocking out the pins is the only way. Is it the correct tool you are using?

When I'm breaking a car I cut the door off to get them off

Hello Dai

this is the tool I used....

... if I should be using a different one, please let me know. This one is quite difficult to hit hard enough as the hammer comes close to the paintwork, which I don't want to damage. The struts you welded 5 years ago are still holding up nicely, just trying to get the rest of the car to look as smart....

It might sound mad, but try a bigger hammer! You can move it slower and place it more accurately while still putting massive force in.

I used one of those, its not really strong enough to get the Volvo pins out. The top ones can be removed with hammer and screwdriver or punch from the top (pull off the trim from the rain gutter). The bottom ones need the tool. My tool lasted for the 2 bottom pins only.

Ta all for that. I'll try with a bent pin remover (I think this'll give better scope for bashing it hard without damaging the paint) and a bigger hammer. Just have to knock out the old punch first!
