door restraint pin

Post by bogbasic » 11 Mar 2011 05:01 pm

Hello, could you possibly tell me the best way to remove the pin holding the front door restraint togather. The 'Haynes' just says 'remove it' or such-like, which is slightly ambiguous to a beginner. Presumably it needs a punch to tap it up or down? Any clues much appreciated, bogbasic.

Hi mate.
The bolts are on the inside. Long screwdriver type thing with a hex bit on the end.

Hello, I think I have already undone the screws that hold the restraint to the door pillar. I am swapping doors and the new door has only half of the door restraint on it - i.e. it lacks the bit that holds it to the door pillar, so I need to split the old door restraint at some point by removing the pin, unless I can remove the restraint completely from inside the old door and pop it on the new one?? Is that at all possible? Thanks.

You can re-attach the part with the screws, and use a hammer to smash the pin out. Can be a bit stuck, so smash with discretion
