Electric Windows

Post by mattywatsit » 20 May 2011 03:17 pm

Hi Everyone.

I have stripped down my Passengers door this afternoon and removed the electric window motor, the motor still operates however it will not lift/drop the window. Does this mean the problem lies with the window regulator? Does anyone know how the regulator mechanism works from the motor shaft?

I am going to try and clean the old grease off and re-grease as suggested somewhere else, but would be grateful of any extra help.

Cheers,

Matt.

Hi Chris,

I did the following:

Removed the motor and the mechanism, tested the motor and then cleaned up the shaft.

Cleaned the inside of the mechanism with WD40 and 3in1 oil and flushed it through and then topped up with new white grease.

Put the Mechanism and motor back together (what a pain that was!) and then put some 3in1 around the cog on the mechanism and on the runners of the window regulator.

Bolted the mechanism & motor combination back to the car, re-connected power to it and Bingo the window now goes up and down :D

Hoping that its fixed *touches wood*

Matt.

Does anyone know if the drivers side motor will work on the passenger side or or are they different?

Cheers.

Obviously you'll have to pull the motor out of the gearbox thing (the bit that bolts to the mechanism with 3 bolts) - I always found it a bit of a lottery when putting the motors back in to these too, they'd either go straight in or you'll faff around for 15minutes
