Dodgy sender unit?
Dodgy sender unit?
Hi guys, new to Volvo so this'll prob sound daft but I've got sender unit troubles I think, my fuel gauge reads zero even when the tanks full.
The daft question is where is it and is it easily accessible?
Anyone had this trouble before and have a remedy for me?
Cheers

Re: Dodgy sender unit?
Hi, welcome to the forum, sender unit is accessed through a hole in the boot floor, under the carpet. Unscrew the 3 tiny screws in the round black metal cover and remove it and you will see the sender. Check the connections are on. From memory, it the sender is faulty then it's easy to take out, but you will need to get the petrol pipes off to remove it. Mark them cos one is petrol out and the other is back in from the engine, don't let them go back under the boot floor where you can't reach them again! If I remember rightly, the sender screws out.

Re: Dodgy sender unit?
Cheers,
I'll check it out at the weekend. Apparently it was working before I picked it up so I'm hoping it is just something simple

Re: Dodgy sender unit?
it's probably a souvenir from your engine conversion, as yours has been converted from mechanical to electric fuel pump (for the turbo engine) they had to alter the sender unit for bigger pipes etc. and a internal or external fuel pump; i bet something went wrong or has been forgotten there.
Re: Dodgy sender unit?
Apparantly it was working until the day before I picked it up, he filled the tank and it stopped working?. I'm hoping it's something simple like a wire that's just worked it's way loose while the cars been thrown aboutvolvodspec wrote:it's probably a souvenir from your engine conversion, as yours has been converted from mechanical to electric fuel pump (for the turbo engine) they had to alter the sender unit for bigger pipes etc. and a internal or external fuel pump; i bet something went wrong or has been forgotten there.

If he's telling the truth it might be the float arm that's disconnected.
Re: Dodgy sender unit?
Ive no reason to doubt him, he's a good mate and wouldnt fob me off. Is the float arm an easy fix?Speedy88 wrote:If he's telling the truth it might be the float arm that's disconnected.

It's mechanical. So yes. Take it out and have a look, no point speculating at this point.
