360 electronic windows

Post by matt nicol » 10 Jun 2012 03:38 am

Hi, just new to this site, very excited after trawling the web looking for 360 info.
I'm in OZ and i drive a blue 1984 360 glt, it's basically a very reliable car, even with over 380-thousand on the clock, but it's got a growing bunch of little problems that i'll attempt to fix, and learn as i go.
So first cab off the rank is the electronic windows. the drivers side window doesn't go up all the way anymore, looses grip and stutters about half an inch from top.
Anyone know how to fix these things? Or where you can get technical images about what's what once you get inside the door?
Cheers a bunch.

Take the door card of and have a look. You may find the coiled spring that is tensioned may have lost its centre holding piece. Also sounds like the window is not aligned. Get yourself a Haynes manual from E bay would be my next advice

Thanks for that, haven't had the chance to look at it yet but I'll let you know how it goes. Im guessing that fixing the alignment is just a matter of adjusting the whole window support bracket across a little?
Couldn't find a 300 series Haynes book yet, they seem a bit scarce at times.
Cheers

Its possible to overhaul the motor with a screwdriver and sandpaper, clean up the contacts and if your really clever find new brushes. The gearbox may be stiff at the bearing, if so penetrating oil and mole grips to work it loose, then fill the box with grease. If its wobbly you probably can't fix it, you can buy new ones on-line but pricey (£100).

The regulator mechanism maybe worn or misaligned, if teeth are missing you will need to find a suitable scrap donor.

Hello, the leccy motor can be got fairly easily as it was used in loads of cars from the same era including Range Rovers, I think! You may still need to swap the little gearbox as the cog that drives the window mechanism tend to differ.
