valance query
valance query
Just curious if the front valance for a 1988 car is still available. What used to be Hadrian, do not seem to do them.

No.
I don't believe they ever did one.

Re: valance query
There have been numerous threads on this, as Richard says the answer is 'no'.
Its Volvo parts only, 1 kit including the entire front panel came up on ebay a few months back.
They are not too hard to depanel, I used parts from a few cars to do mine.

Re: valance query
We need to get this sorted asap. We need brand new mk2 and mk3 ones to get moulded, so we can replace them with fibreglass, then there forever replaceable Where did the guy go that bought that brand new mk2 one off the bay? getting a mould of that would help so much

Re: valance query
technically the valance counts as a structural beam, not sure if the MOT would approve with replicating such a part out of fibreglass, i know the dutch MOT won't approve it

Why would I want a GRP replacement? But if you feel so strongly about it, put your money on the table and get knocking them out.
The list of parts needed can be never ending. So where to start? With bigger projects like steel pressings it requires a lot a cash. Even knocking out half-decent GRP wings say, cost dosh, as it relies so much on someone taking the time to get a half-decent mould together. The biggest pain in the arse is getting all those that bleated about wanting some part to actually part with the cash (or somehow magically find it). Usually because it costs too much (in their eyes)

Re: valance query
Because a GRP replacment should have a little bit of flex in it, rather than the steel one that just bends. If you were to put a box section across the back like the one thats on there, then the front of the car would be just as strong, just it would then be easier to replace I say easier to replace mainly for the guys that rally, race, drift there 300 as accidents do happen

And the non-competition users would like a real-deal steel one...

Re: valance query
This is true, im a competition guy, but i'd prefer a steel one too, however as you have stated, the costs of getting the machines/dies/stamps etc set-up is enormous, however bob in his shed can knock out a few dozen fibreglass replica's from one decently made mould

Re: valance query
So you'd prefer a steel one? Okay, serious question here: How much are you willing to pay?

Re: valance query
For a brand new steel front valance, i'd pay for definite £150, depending on my financial situation at the time, i might go higher....macplaxton wrote:So you'd prefer a steel one? Okay, serious question here: How much are you willing to pay?
Who's got one?

I think the rest of the market might only stand a hundred quid a pop.
I don't have one

The only way to solve this problem is to find an antiquated panelbeater who is willing to make them by hand.
Setting up press tooling for a valence will be pretty #### and which one would one do?
