I found that hammering out the lower front hinge pin caused it to snag against the inside of the door skin so a Dremel-type of thing is needed to keep cutting off bits of the pin as you hammer it out! If, like me, you try one or two of the hinge-pin removal tools, there won't be much left of them at the end!! I think I found that a parallel-pin punch set was by far the most useful, and they survived the experience much better. You could even check-out year 7 of my blog ;-)

I used one of those tools, it worked but gets almost destroyed. Hammer and punch/bar works as Liam said, all in all can be fiddly job but you get there eventually! I ended up sill using the hammer and bar even with the tool. The threads are not up to the hammering they get.

Door removal tool is fine if the pins are ready to shift. A good daily soak in your choice of penetrating oil for a good week before hand helps.

Some things can't be rushed, unless you want to break everything.

Those tools do work but will only do one car before breaking! It is worth paying more for a better quality tool.

Volvo.

Having said that, Volvo don't do the replacement pins any more.

Door hinge pins, or tool pins?

If its door hinge pins, and you still have them in stock, I'll take 10 please... I have 4 doors to change in the next few months!

Calm down Mr. Paranoid! I was referring to tool pins, as in pins for the tool.

I've got 10 hinge pins for the door handy whenever you like.
