Heater Blower squealing problem

Post by VolvoNuts85 » 21 Feb 2013 05:02 pm

The blower motor on the early-type heater unit on my 1985 Volvo 340 GLE keeps developing a squealing noise every 12 months or so. Each year I have to take the top cover off the heater box and oil it and every year it runs dry and starts making an appalling racket again, particularly when on the 1st and 2nd speed settings. I ask you, is this normal? Understandably after about 15 years or so of doing this I'm getting a bit brassed off having to see to it. Is it that I'm using the wrong type of oil - I always normally use 3-in-1 oil, but perhaps that isn't thick enough. My Haynes manual gives no indication of what I should use, so if anyone out there's got a solution, other than changing the motor, please let me know. Thanks.

ive never had this problem but sounds like maybe the bearings are knackered? other than changeing the motor i would try some high temp grease as it probably gets pretty hot and drys normal oil up quick

cheers

Yeah mine does that. The bearings just go eventually.
