Identifying Cars From Different Domestic Markets
Hi Everybody,my crashed 360GLT has stamped into it's VIN plate that its made in the Netherlands and the month/year that it was built + the weight capacities. It was sold new in NZ.
I have just picked up another 360GLT (origin unknown)which does not have the above info.Just the chassis number and weight capacities.A lot of european cars that come here are second hand from Japan. Both my Mk2 Golfs are ex-Japan.
What I have noticed are some small differences on the engine. The "new" one seems to have no EGR system,no breather pipes that go to the air intake and a hot/cold air thermostat in the air filter box.The missing breathers look factory as in no blocked up holes or bodges.Oh and seems to use a shit load LESS fuel!
The crashed one has those 2 black pipes that go to the air intake, the EGR "seems" to have been deactivated but not removed, doesn't have the hot/cold thermostat, again doesn't look like it was ever there.Lastly there is largeish black plastic cylinder in the intake side with MADE IN USA written on the top (flame trap?).This car was a guzzler.
I've done a search for specs and chassis numbers but haven't turned anything up.
BTW the "new" one is metalic green, has the extra guages and drives like a peach,it started to snow quite badly on the way home from picking it up and coped really well with all the slippin and slidin.
I now just have to decide what to do next.

Green I was amazed that it got from Te Rapa to Stratford on $40 petrol. Not as grunty as the white one though.
Re: Identifying Cars From Different Domestic Markets
I found my egr model (B200EA) i believe it to be called, um, sucked dogs bollocks compared to my old girl. but my baby does have a 2.5 inch coby exhaust system and possibly a lumpier cam and $44 each spark plugs. what are your planning's/thoughts on what to do? Tesh told me what panelbeating was gonna cost and to be honest, unless its got massive sentimental value, its not worth it over here. they struggle to sell for 1200 straight and legal. that is just my thoughts though. i think as far as market differences, air con was a largely au thing, as was egr. i know there are cars in UK with them but not as many i don't think.

Re: Identifying Cars From Different Domestic Markets
Well it was pretty much a mint one owner before the crash. We paid $500 for it which included 12mths Rego.As far ar I was concerned we weren't ever going to have to buy another car.It doesn't need much to straighten it out so I think its worth more to me as a decent relyable and safe car fixed up.But the insurance company dont seem to be excercising the"utmost good faith" that I'm supposed to.

Re: Identifying Cars From Different Domestic Markets
The chassis no already tells you quite a bit (engine type, model year, transmission etc.) Only the colour code and weights are extra on the VIN plate.
Have a look at the parts catalogue on page 10/11 ...

No insurance simply see it as an asset. as money. they don't see the practically factor

Re: Identifying Cars From Different Domestic Markets
there is a lot depending on the modelyear of the different cars, even the VIN plates can vary over the years.
300's have mostly been built here in the netherlands and quite a few in Malaisia, nowhere else

Re: Identifying Cars From Different Domestic Markets
Ok Cool, any ideas on the MADE IN USA cylinder? It is T'd off of the vacuum pipe that goes to the RENIX.Also the RENIX number is different on the "new" one.
I've spent the day removing the engine so that it can go to the body shop and be staightened out on a jig.
On the drive middle of winter doin it for the lurrv of it

Re: Identifying Cars From Different Domestic Markets
What years are both of them?
You need to keep the renix with the engine to be safe

Re: Identifying Cars From Different Domestic Markets
Both 86's new one has no pulsair and no egr.Today I removed the egr from my one and pulled out the pulsair too.Still no idea as to the Rochester cylinder. But its definitely not the flame trap.
