340 headrest removal

Post by 325turbo » 03 Jul 2013 01:51 pm

How can the headrests be removed? There is nothing in owner's manual and nothing in Haynes repair manual.

I'm trying to install seat covers to my father-in-law's 340 '86. Do I need to cut big holes in the cover top or can the headrests be removed?

First thought
The head rests can be removed, same as a 240.

Feel for the release tabs through the vinyl back, press to release.
However, just to cover my arse*, it may not have the same clips. You might have to stick your hand up inside the back cover and feel around for the clips. At worst you'll have to lift the cover up to expose the clips, remove head rest, re-attach cover and so on.

Whatever type they are, the retaining notch would appear to be facing forwards. Clips (41) holds them in:
