Aircon Rebuilding
As per heading I'm rebuilding my aircon system. When I removed it all there was the remains of what seemed to me to be a thin charcoal type filter or a very thin slice of black sponge.Do I really need this? Can I just put it back together without it?
PS Rebuild of the car has ground to a halt as the panel beaters have had the car for 3 weeks and have not started it yet

Re: Aircon Rebuilding
I'm guessing that thin black spongy bit is a filter that goes on the back of the heater box. IIRC mine disintegrated on removal as well.

Ahhh, the black sponge on grey plastic frame?
It's a moisture separator, I used the frame to stretch something like a pair of tights over from memory, just to keep the larger squirrels out.

Re: Aircon Rebuilding
Cool! Now I know what to ask for from some of our contractors at work or at an aircon shop.
Thanks for that

Re: Aircon Rebuilding
Please keep us updated on your aircon rebuild! A great help would be parts info - bits from other models which can be bought off the shelf and are a straight swap for the V300 series.
Here's some info that might help:

Re: Aircon Rebuilding
It is interesting as R12 has been outlawed in NZ so I will keep you all informed.Aircon is more widespread here so there are more older cars that would need the "retrofit" so the procedure might be more common.

Re: Aircon Rebuilding
pettaw converted a (very rare) UK AC system to R134a a few years ago. I have a kit too, and it's something I want to get sorted out for my 360.

Re: Aircon Rebuilding
I've seen the thread on this forum on what is needed.I hope to find it easier over here as aircon was fitted to nearly every single car.My '89 MK2 Golf Diesel has aircon as its a Jap import.Doesn't work mind you but you get my drift?
