After a small accident, the drivers side rear wing has been bent in my 1990 340DL (spare tyre under bonnet). The paint is not broken and the panel seems to be single skinned so I thought I could remove the rear bumper, gently bang the dent into shape (only part of it is visible as the erst is covered by the bumper) then put it back together.
My question is: How do you remove the rear bumper?????

Well, with difficulty with the age of our cars normally, as the bolts rust! From memory, look under the rear of the car for the towing eye, on the right hand side, o/s in the UK, and follow it up under the car. It is on the same bracket as this where the bumper metalwork comes through and is held by two bolts. Then the other side is in the same place without the towing eye. These bolts aren't easy to get to, or undo, but you may be lucky and they will come off easily, I'd advise finding some spares or replacements, just incase they break. Once these are off, the bumper should slide back away from the car and off of the plastic clips either side of the body. Hope this helps and good luck with the repair.

its nigh on impossible unless you're lucky. have a go at doing it with the bumper on, or just filler up the bumper
