Hi,everybody! New on this forum.
I have problem with starting my car. At first sometimes the startengines solenoid klicka but the startengine did not work. I changed it to a new complete startengine but again the same problem. I got tired of it but after some days i set on the ignitionswitch and it sounds strange. Just like some misconduction in the switch... I changed it and at first it was working but later the solenoid began to klick again but it won't start. I heard from a Volvo-freind that there was some problems with overloading the ignitionswitch and therefor you could buy a relaykit to build in between the ignitionswitch and the solenoid. I will try that tomorrow... The most strange about it is that when I knock on the startengine with a hammer it usually works. Therefor I'm not really shure whether my problem is electical or mecanical...? I'm very thankful for tips!

Hello and welcome.

start engine = starter motor.

MY80, starter motor was a "long case" type. The solenoid is either on the top, under the exhaust manifold, or on the side. The later cars, CH. 610000- use a slightly different motor (shorter and fatter). The later motor can be fitted, but I would personally use the older type.

I had problems with my motor, which I had to use a hammer on. Changed the motor and no further problems.

Hello and thanks!
I also changed the starter motor and I think it is the short variant I got from the sparepartcompany...but should that really matter?

Short starter motor should be okay.

Check contacts / connections are good on solenoid.
Check earth strap connections are good.
