Wiper bearings

Post by Ride_on » 02 Mar 2015 02:49 am

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck in refurbing the wiper bearings. My 200k 360 spindles were pretty worn and an 70k 340 better but still worn.

The problem seems to be the spindle wears out as its under alot of pressure. There are replaceable bronze bushes in the aluminium housing but the spindle is more complex and seems to be pressed/riveted into the arm. The spindle seems to chromed like a caliper piston.

Mine is epicly worn out, I have a spare linkage in stock to replace but not got round to looking at refurbing.

I'm trying to remember if it was the spindle or rubber grommet, but a while ago an Imp owning friend asked me if I had any spare bits for the spindles, seemingly the Imp guys found 300 ones fit their cars nicely.

Seems to be companies doing the ball joints, although these seem to last well. Isla Components seem to be manufacturing such things in the UK, will try and contact them.

I've had some communication from Isla, what would everyone be interested in. How many?

1. Just spindles
2. Full refurbish/replacement of bearing assembly (Housing bushes, new spindles, o-rings, nuts etc)
3. Full wiper assembly refurb, including arm joints

I'm thinking 1 or preferably 2. Never seen problems with joints.

I haven't had to tackle wiper bearings much but this looks like an awesome piece of work.
