The strip changed in about 1981 to aluminum coated plastic, it is brittle and corrodes to a very dull finish. Prior to that the proper metal chromes lasts much better, and could probably be rechromed. Later models then used a narrower strip and some models used black. Nothing is available replacement from Volvo or aftermarket. The metal chrome is a good upgrade to an 82 or so that uses the same size.

Just pop a Philips screwdriver under the trim (at the end of the trim!!) and push the screwdriver forward following the channel. This will work the trim out without overstressing the bits.
Once the trim has been removed it will be easy to push the rubber out like Classicswede wrote.
Begin at the top in the middle and work towards both sides at the same time. TAKE YOUR TIME TO DSO IT !!!!! as rushing it will brake the windscreen.
Leaving the lockingplates in (inside) will also brake the windscreen.....

I have done about a dozen windscreens this way and have broken 2; one where I had left a couple of locking plats in place under the dash (lazy me, I know), and the second had a chip that couldn't take the stress (rushing it....).
