Wheel paint colour

Post by benjileo » 04 Mar 2017 12:33 pm

Hi all,

Can any of you recommend a good paint brand/colour to restore my alloys? They've got some rust patches etc so I'm going to give them a good cleanup but I'd like to stay as true to factory spec as possible.

Here's a pic of my 340 http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c72/e ... /image.jpg (well not mine but it's identical)

Cheers!
Ben

Have the rims blasted, then paint them over, they'll look better and last longer, I would suggest any 2 part paint might be best, but I honestly don't know, I need to do mine too.

Duplicolor Wheel Coating is a good paint for alloys, but remember that prep is the most important thing to do. I bought wheels from 4 wheel online before, then I painted them with plastidip to change the look temporarily.

Why not have them powder coated?

I agree that powdercoating is another good option though a bit pricey and difficult to touch up.

I've tried, noone knows the colour. The standard method nowadays is powder coat grey or whatever then wet paint silver over that.

If you want to do it cheap, bead blasting is relatively cheap (or sand yourself), then primer, paint and laquer yourself. Al does not corrode as quickly as steel, so it last for 4 or 5 years before blistering. The paint doesn't matter that much.
