Renix problem on 14.4 cvt car

Hi,

About the Renix assy:
on these units the electronic components are enclosed in/under a poured-in mass (sort of rubbery stuff).
After many years my unit shows cracks in that mass.
I could imagine, dampness is entering these cracks and up to the electonic parts (the mass should hide and protect) and
interfere with the functioning of these components (or let them deteriorate).
Ignition problems/suboptimal ignition could be the result.
Is this a realistic fear?
Anyone any knowledge on this?
Would like to know what material the encapsulating mass is.
How could cracks be repaired or better still, the mass be replaced by a new one?

Hello oldschoolcart, great question. There is a post on this forum which you can find with 'search' in which someone cuts all the rubbery stuff out and replaces a resistor or something but I think if the system is working you could cause more trouble than it is worth. I would think that silicone sealant would be absolutely ideal for patching up any cracks. Best wishes, Jon.C.

P.S. if you want really tough sealant, Sikaflex is the stuff to use but it'll cost a bit more than a tube of Poundland bathroom sealant, which is probably just as suitable for the job.
