I'd start here, http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... nditioning
Air conditioning was a factory option for 300s in the UK and most probably some other parts of europe, it was standard in australia i believe.
Where in bulgaria are you? I had the best holiday of my life on the slopes of Borovets, I will go back at some point!

Yes, air conditioning was an option, and standard on certain models.
You're probably best off tracking down a car which had it, and fitting the parts. Good luck, I've been trying to get hold of a kit for a long time. I'm not sure quite what else I can say that's useful at this stage.
cheers
James

d3k4y0, 10x for the link, i'm from Sofia, but you're wellcome to Bulgaria anytime, we have and nice beaches on the Black Sea too.
foggyjames, tracking down a car wich had an air condition here is very difficult job, when i asked at the bulgarian volvo club they said there is no AC on that car, so i decided to ask outside, where people maybe know more, and i was right
Now i just need to find AC from other car to fit to mine, do you know will it fit from other Volvo, say 7xx or 4xx? Or is it writen somewere what the radiator, compressor, evaporator etc. must be?
The tempreture here in bulgaria at summer is higher then in England so imagine what i must stand in this time of the year, and i decided that this is my last summer in the oven
PS
i hope you understendet what i mean:-)

never seen 300 with AC myself. the most difficult part is the car inside modification, other stuff can be installed much easier...i believe you must look for a new compressor and some other stuff...years ago i saw additional AC for LADA...anyways, good luck...

Some bits are compatible...the compressor is very similar to a 2/7/900 one, and the bracket is the same. 400 series stuff might be a close match. I'd start getting friendly with an Austrailian about obtaining a kit, if you want the proper 300 series bits.

I think at least one person is just going down the after market kit route, or from another model completely, but even in the UK, where we seem to have got the highest spec cars, AC is pretty rare. If you happen to find one with AC you're doing well.
Well done on not believing what you were told that the 300's never had AC, it was rare, but it did exist!
The thing is, it's not just a case of finding it, it's still a lot of hassle and expense getting it converted to run on the newer gas etc. and fitting it.

Hehe, I drove through Sofia a few weeks ago, on the entire trip from England to India, Sofia had the most 300's we saw, 2 mk2's and a mk3 on the road, and 1 in a scrappies. Considering we only saw 2 more for the other 7000miles!!!
Wonder if yours was one we saw!

fitting air conditioning on a MKIII can be done.
the blower housing has been designed so that an evaporator (cools the air going into the car) can be fitted in it without having to modify anything else. When you are going to scavenge for parts, you should start with opening up your blower housing and measuring the maximum dimensions that fit in there.
the size of the condensor (should be fitted in front of the radiator) is less critical, don't think you'll be running into one thats too large easily
