I don't want to get rid of CR-407 installed in my 360 GL but I don't want to use cassettes either. I was thinking about buying a car holder for my iPAQ and connecting its audio output to the stereos. Is it possible to do it somehow?

I noticed that the previous owner has had a phone hands free system installed and I found a microphone and two cables: antenna and 2.5mm jack. Can it be helpful somehow?

I'm planning to get a cheapish amp mounted out of sight with an audio jack input, then keeping an original style stereo in the dash, to get decent quality audio with an authentic look...

The simplest answer is a tape converter. But as Nick said, you can use an external amp too, but it's more work.

What you can also try doing, is using an FM transmitter. You plug your MP3 / CD / MD player into it, and it transmits the source signal using a very low strength FM frequency. Then all you have to do is tune your radio to pick up the signal.

I have one where the strength of the signal transmitted is so low, that my radio (original '80s) automatically switches to mono. Not so cool then, unless you're into pre 60s music

These FM transmitters have only very recently become legal. Apparently in other parts of the world (Asia, USA?) you can get much higher-powered ones but then you start affecting other people's radio reception in traffic jams

Thanks for your suggestions. I was thinking about using a tape converter or an FM transmitter but couldn't find neither of them in local shops. Of course I can order such from eBay but I was hoping there's a quicker solution.

Why not fit a complete CD headunit in the glovebox and just keep the standard head unit in the dash for the looks.
