I've heard that "your mileage may vary" and there are some branches that can manage it. :?

But then some colours are easier to match than others. Reds are a 'mare.

Just got some touch up paint made for the Sigma from a local car paint workshop. Proper workshops will have the paint colour books for most cars ever made. Although he didn't list my paint, I was able to match it to a Nissan paint colour which was essentially the same. Maybe ask around at these places because they'll know what they're doing unlike your local underpaid halfords employee:

Best thing to do is go to a paint shop and get them to match to a sample (fuel filler would do) and they will be able to take into account any fading.

Red's are hard to match and some paint codes have more than 1 shade. For example there are 3 very different shades of 46 red but the chassis paint only says 46 and not the shade. Some other colours will be XXX-2 for shade 2

Thanks Dai that is very helpful. My cars code is: 227. I will check under the bonnet shortly to see if theres an added number for shade.

Also, am I correct in thinking that cellulose paint is the best; is this what some describe as lacquer?

Celly is the most easy diy paint.

2 pack is harder and needs less coats and will hide more but needs BA to spray if you want your lungs to work.

Lacquer is a clear top coat used to seal the paint. You do not have to use it with celly based paint

Ive just checked my cars colour code under the bonnet, there are no X's but it does have another number after the 3 digits ie; 227-6

Is that the complete code for my cars colour?

Hi Justin.
Yes, thats it. If you take the code to a desent motor factors, they will be able to make it up
while you wait.
Cheers Mark.

shade 1 is the lightest version and normaly goes darker the higher the number

Obviously my car would have faded considerably from its original colour so 227-6 will probably look a lot darker...
