I haven't forgotten ;-) in fact, I have them already! Pete brought them over at the Xmas DAF meet. I would like to try and scan them first though, or at least get some measurements, I never got round to doing that on your set ...

I finally got around to tracing around Pete's MkIII spotlamp brackets before I send them on to Jos.

A bit messy, but maybe it's of some use to somebody ;-)

It was MOT time, and I STILL hadn't got around to hook the spot lamps up :-( So I'm afraid I got the garage to do it instead, with the help of all your wiring plans. Here's the result:

... as you can see all 6 are on, which means they didn't follow Chris' plan too well (you're not technically supposed have more than 4 forward-facing lamps on at the same time here), but the MOT man didn't seem to mind, so I'm happy :-)

I can totally see why you're into the Hella grille Chris, I prefer the look of this setup, but the beam's "wobble" isn't too cool. Maybe there's a way of supporting them from the top as well, I'll have to look into that.

Apart from that, welding on the RH sill, two steering rack bushes (nasty aftermarket stuff, the old ones only lasted 4 years :-() and another 2 years' of peace (hopefully).

I'd imagine they just havn't added the extra wire and relay dude, I can talk you through doing it at some point if required. Looks awesome like that though!

And yes, it is possible to add stays, but it's difficult to make it look pretty due to the backwards opening bonnet.

You can just screw the bolts in tighter. It should be rock solid then, at least it was with my lamps.

The relay's there, I fitted that myself, all they did connect the live wire up to the alternator, and route the lot onto the switch by the gear lever. I guess they just didn't add the foglamp switch cut-off bit ...

I don't mind, it always depends on the MOT tester on the day. In fact I like being able to switch on all six at once :-) It took 18 years for a tester to notice that the rear fog lamp on the Trabant could be turned on without the headlamps being on as well - it left the factory like that.

Jos - I guess there will always be a little bit of vibration - the lamps are screwed onto the brackets, which are in turn screwed onto the bumper, which again is screwed onto those trumpet-shaped things ... But I'll tighten them up a bit more and see what happens!

You need to add support brackets that goes from top of lamps trough grill to metal body of car, thete is good space to mount brackets next to bonnet hinges. It does make lot of difference, virtually no wobble at all if made properly, small tension keeps them from not vibrating.

Also such brackets are handy for adjusting spots, I have found best adjustment for visibility is such that extra spots starts where car's main beam stops, so that there are no gap, but also no overlap. Also I tend to adjust them so that they lit mostly edges of roads, that is useful in corners and often it is not road where danger lies, it runs to road from forests, so best to see danger before it comes to road.

I have been extra spots user for over 10 years, they are must in here, but good lights seem to be also illegal, nobody really cares, maybe they understand that it is cheaper than hospital bills from hitting wild animals

My favourite lamps are FF320 Jumbos with HID kit at the moment, great performance for dark autumn weather, but don't look very nice.

One switch for both spot lamps? In the above setup yes.

I now have these fitted to my green GLT. There I have them wired to the full beam "flasher", so I no longer have a seperate switch.

Could you help me about the dimensions of those spotlight's?

Are they 15,87cm X 15,24cm X 6,35cm?
or in inch measure 6 ¼ “ width x 6” height x 2 ½ ” deep.
