Confusion over after market rev counter fitting

Post by dubstar » 15 Feb 2009 02:40 pm

Trying to fit an after market rev counter to my car, and have a major headache figuring out which the feed wire for the coil is, so I can get the signal.

The green book section just confused the hell out of me, So I was wondering if someone could point me to the right wire from experience?

I can put up a picture of the coil if that helps at all?

Found It... Looked at the right page of the green book (I swear, I'm working with amateurs here lol) The voices say "cut the green wire"

So, quick checklist:

Lengths of wire, all the same colour to add to later confusion - check
connector block for joining wires together - check
tape for 'insulation' - check

(If I can find the right crimps, I may well actually do the job half properly, but my garage is a mess at the moment, and owing to the nature of the road trip that the car is taking part in, some 'comedy' wiring that can be corrected later is very much in order.)

(p.s. my 'comedy' wiring will still remain safe)

Hi mate.
I fitted a rev counter into my mk1 345.If you are mounting it into the centre consol streight to the coil, you will need a voltage regulater to keep the volts at a steady 10 volts.

Managed to get this sorted yesterday. Rev counter now sitting on top the the glove box. (It was too big to sit on the dash).

All wired in, in not too shabby a fashion I might add :)

Didn't need any kind of regulator luckily, just cut into the Grey wire coming from the coil box.

There are a few more jobs to do as yet, but I'm getting through them.

I figured there was probably a wire behind the dash, but the way I did it wasn't really hard, once I'd found the right wire.

Will get a picture of the install some time tomorrow.
