Mounting GLT speedometer systems on GLi speedometer

Hi!
I have resently bought me a 1989 360 GLi, and on my new car, the temperature and "econ"
mesurments arent in that dashboard.
I have a 1984 360 GLT that im going to use as a "part-car" for my newer 360 (I know that
the GLT has 5 more horsepowers, but my old GLT i rusty  and the new one has
powersteering).
So i was just wondering if it possible to smack those instruments in my "new" Volvo?? I
guess that the temperature instrument woldnt be a problem, but what about the "econ"
mesurment... and... do i actualy need it...? well... i think its cool with a "full" dashboard.
Are there any other "neet" GLT parts that i can use?
PS:
My new 1989 GLi dosnt start at the moment (i bought it for about 120 US dollars, and cars are
expensive in Norway) 170  , but my dad is a car car-mechanich, so im kinda lucky that
way. The problem may be that flyweel sensor, kinda seems like it, becouse my dad said that it
probebly was a electronical problem. I red about it in this forum, and im gonna try to use the
part from my GLT. thx for that!

Flywheel sensor

Hello Mellum,
Could you please report on this forum whether the problem of not being able to start your 360
GL engine indeed was the flywheel sensor?
Is the starter running and are the sparks igniting or not?
I have the same problem with a 1987 360 GL injection. Fuel pump is running, starter also and
the engine goes round, but it won't start. I measured the resistance of the flywheel sensor and
it was 0! Elsewhere on this forum it was stated that the correct value should be 220 Ohm.
What resistance is yours?
Greetings,
François

1. two different makers of
instruments: smiths and vdo.
2. if you have, fit the older version of GLT ignition system: with Hall-sensor, amplifier and
ignition coil. 83 and 84 glt-s have such ones! :360:

The problem is fixed. It wasnt that flyweelsensor (we tried a
nother sensor from my seacond 360), it was a loose wire in the fuse box!!!!
We thought it was kinda strange when the ligths in the dashboard diddent turn on when we
turned the egnition on, all the other electric worked, fuel pump, ligths so on, but there was no
flashers, so I checked the fuses, and i "wiigeled" the wieres connected to the fuse box.
And than: "KA-BOOM", everythink worked perfectly, and the car started!!!
I`m sorry François, i have not messured my flyweel sensor, I dont think 0 in resistans is a good
thing... :?
It could actually just be a faulty wire/cable in the electrics thats keeping your car from starting,
my dad (a car mechanic), couldent figure out wy the car diddnt start, i was just lucky to figured
it out.
So... as i said... im NO expert, but if you try turning on the ignition (on1), and the flashers
wont work (and thers no ligths in the dashboard) It could be a faulty cable in the electrics,
guess those systems are on the same sircut or something...
I wish i could be more helpfull...
I could ask my dad if he has any suggestions...
I'm going to "stasj" opp my "new" 360 tomorrow, mouting my car stereo, and my dad
insisted on mouting the 84 GLT wing on my 88 Gli trunk... wy not? looks kinda cool... 8)
Good luck to you François! Hope you can get your :360: fixed!

Hi
I had the same problem with my 360 - it turned out it was a grounding-problem...
Due to a waterleekage around the front window, the groundconetion under the dash on the
passengerside had coroded. Simply fixed with a screwdriver, sandpaper and elecrolube?
Recomend stopping the leak as well... :D

I had a grounding problem mysef yesturday. I had my self to
blame, there was a grounding-srew that i haddent mountet 100%. The electrics went completly
crasy! That problem gave me a hard time, i thougth that i had mountet all the ground-cables.
Thanks for that tip Andy!
My cable connectors on the inside of the fuse-box was grilled! So i refitted a another fuse-box.
Perheps theres a leak causing problems there.
Im going to the scrapheap tommorow, thers a lot of 360 there, waiting for me to find em. My
360 has some damage on the left door and frontside, so im gonna fit some new parts...
