Hi

Yet another problem with this car! It seems that when you press the footbrake the rear brake lights come on (like they should!) and the front side lights also come on (which they shouldnt!)

When you have the main lights on the side lights dont flash but the brake lights do not work at all.

Can anybody help as my MOT is due next week and I havent got a clue what to do! Ive had a look around for problems and cant see any. Its becoming aproblem as drivers think im flashing them whenever I brake!

PLEASE HELP me and save a mint 340 saloon from the car graveyard![/b]

I'm not sure but have you checked all your earthing points ? it may be worth undoing them , cleaning with a wire brush and then re tightening them

Yep, I cleaned the two earth points near the battery which were really rusty. Even put on a brand new washer and this still made no difference.

Any other ideas!?

I'm certain as redline says this is an earthing problem on the rear light clusters. They're notorious for letting water in and corroding the terminals. Are all your rear lights working correctly? I'd also check the bulb holder metal contacts and make sure they are making contact with the earth rails.

i'd go for rear light clusters too. take all the bulbs out and see if it still happens

I`m with every body else on this one - clean the earth points on the rear clusters. This is a v. common fault. I`ve redone mine with proper cable to the lamps.

Definitely, definitely, definitely earth points. Check the front lights, rear lights, etc, etc. Our world is doomed to a long, painful death if we're sending cars to the scrappers because of bad earths.

Drive with the sidelights on if you have to use the car before you fix it - mine did the problem you describe and was fixed in a few minutes and it was the earthing problem on the rear lights.

I had something similar happen to me After i resprayed the Right hand side of my 360 GLT. It turned out to be an earthing problem. Make sure that you rear light is earthed correctly by ensuring all attaching bolts are tight and also make sure the brown earth wire at the bottom of the light is attached to the cluster.
