Two updates after further dabbling with the multimeter, eyeballs and paperclips
macplaxton wrote:Display reads U 87.50 at start-up. Scans (or steps) up to U 99.95, then the display changed to small V above the U and goes from v 0000 to 0400 in steps of 5. Then back round to 87.50. Not quite sure what exact combination of button(s) was pressed to get it into this mode, but it stays that way between removing the power and restarting.
I might of even done something bad to the unit

However, although the display shows (after U 99.95) v 0000 - v 0400 (instead of the U, it sort of sits in the open part of the U, so it might be the top of a M if the bottom of the U was missing if you catch my drift) that still corresponds to U 100.00 to U 104.00 FM (although the point has gone too as well as the figure 1). I discovered this when I tuned v 0030 in, with a small screwdriver stuck in the aerial socket and got Dublin's Nova on 100.3 FM :D So I'm thinking maybe it got a surge and/or borked a chip somewhere and it might be connected with the lack of band changing /AVI / MTS too. Toggling the MTS button, doesn't switch between MTS and non-MTS mode as "MTS" does appear on the LCD, no matter what I do. Regardless of the AVI button state, the AVI light does not light up, but then I wouldn't expect it to do hee-haw anyway.
macplaxton wrote:I do get very feint sound from the unit when it's tuned into a FM station or the tape is turning, so something connecting or in the power amp stage isn't working properly (as well as the rest of the issues)
I've worked this problem out. I check the signal from the head and it is very weak. No problem with the deck, just needing a wee service. I found the left and right channel output pins on the preamp board. Fed them into my portable stereo radio/cassette/cd player with the homemade mp3 3.5mm jack plug socket and got a big noise out of it. So the preamp board appears OK too. Chased the wires further and found the problem - The Equalizer socket. If you have not got an equaliser plugged in, it breaks the connection to the power amp board. Sets without an equaliser should have a stubby bridging plug in the socket instead. A couple of paperclips later and volume was blaring though my headset. So that board is fine too. :D

What it's missing is this (borrowed pic from ryan/smosit @ turbobricks)
Image

It's the loopback / bridging plug which connects the opposing pins that should be there if not using an equaliser. (but the socket has a secondary use, it can be used as a mp3 player input  )

I'll get to the bottom of fixing this unit if it kills me

ground would be a better translation :D

so blue + black can't be connected

can;t make anything out of what's typed at the orange though. footpedal sender; why on earth would you need that for a radio? (swap station every time you press the brake or something  )
I know what the orange cable means!
I have this radio in my 760TIC and I have a button next to the clutch pedal, and when you press it, the radio searches for a new music station :)

Thanks Mark, that sounds like a good idea! My copy is in Swedish (as far as I can tell ...).

@macplaxton - I have pic of the sender search button in a dealer accessory folder. Can't promise when I'll get around to take a pic though - I'm rushed off my feet ATM ...

Hello,
sorry that I dig out this old thread.

I got an offer for an CR 4040. Does anybody know which is the difference between CR4060 and 4040?
The only thing I know is that the AVI function is not installed in the 4040.
I read that 4040 only has got 2x8W power and 4060 has 4x8W power.
Does that mean that I can't use the 4040 with speakers in the back of the car? But why then, the 4040 has a fader-function as well?
In general is this "2x8W"-info correct? or has the 4040 4x8W, too?

Thanks in advance for you!
Just for information: I've got a 264 GLE. I complete my profile as soon as I can, but now I am in a hurry (monday - you understand :( )
Best regards from Germany
C.

Hi Cabrioman,

The CR-4040 has no AVI, but a "loudness" button instead. The CR4040 also has 4x8W. The rear has sockets for an equaliser (useful for mp3 player input) and one for a amplifier (such as the HA-4111 4x20W).

Hope this helps,
Rich

!THREAD REVIVAL!

While looking around for something completely different the other week, I stumbled across something related to this:

Image

The VOLVO 1129480-8 radio seek floor switch.

It would appear to all intents and purposes the same thing as this:

Image

The VOLVO 1589502, 1502073, 1584341 exhaust brake switch from the lorries and buses.

(There are aftermarket ones about that have a row of dots instead of the word Volvo on them too)
