REAR BUMPER REMOVAL?
REAR BUMPER REMOVAL?
How on earth do you go about removing a rear bumper on a Volvo 340DL?

Re: Rear Bumper Removal?
It still doesn't explain that the thing to do is remove the right angle brackets with the bumper. The 4 bolts are just above the rear spring mounting.

Re: Rear Bumper Removal?
So you only have to remove the bolts that hold the rear bumper onto either side of the car? They're up inside the rear wheel arches I take it?

Re: Rear Bumper Removal?
Just get under with a torch and locate the brackets that connect the bumper to the car and remove the bolts that hold those bracket on at the car side, the bumper will then slide out with the brackets. The bolt may well be rusted and may break or strip, be prepared to cut off and replace.
The only other places the bumper is located is on the outside wing area, but that just slides off when you pull the bumper back. You do have to align the slidy bits when you put the bumper back on.
pre-84 models have the number plate lights in the bumper, these have to be disconnected also.

Re: Rear Bumper Removal?
If the bolts sheer then how the hell do you go about sourcing a new set?

Tinternet!
Seems to be an M8x120 to 160mm accordind to my long bolt stock. Not sure what the correct length for your car is. Some sizes may require a bit more effort.

Re: REAR BUMPER REMOVAL?
Whip out the four bolts that attach the bumper brackets to the rear legs.
It's a right chew on removing the bumper with brackets still on car.

What do you mean by "It's a right chew on removing the bumper with brackets still on car?"
Do you mean its harder to remove the bumper with the brackets still on the car?

Re: REAR BUMPER REMOVAL?
Yeah.
Remove it all as one. Then separate the brackets from the bumper reinforcer imo.
If the bolts attaching the brackets to the chassis legs are seized/rounded off, break out the grinder.
It makes sense to replace them anyway.

Re: REAR BUMPER REMOVAL?
Underneath the boot floor are 2 metal arms coming from the bumper, held onto the car by 4 bolts.
Undo those bolts, and the arms come with the bumper, then you can take the arms off

Re: REAR BUMPER REMOVAL?
Im guessing these are found from the underneath of the car? Also, why would I need to remove the arms? Im trying to get the bumper off in order to repair one of the plastic sliders that is cracked due to me reversing into a very short metal bollard/post!!

Re: REAR BUMPER REMOVAL?
In which case, you don't need to remove the arms!

Re: REAR BUMPER REMOVAL?
Just get on your back under the rear of the car, and decide which method to use.
