Rev counter help

Post by grovesy » 07 Mar 2010 04:41 pm

Hi guys I have an after Market rev counter to fit in my 340 but I just need to know which wires go to where. I have 4 wires, red, black, yellow, and green.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Jamie

black goes to earth (brown on a 340)
red is live ( pink ocasionally)
green is signal ( pink or grey wire in the dash cluster)

yellow possibly ignition live? or light..

I haven't got a rev counter as standard, so will I still need to use the pink wire behind the dash?

Thanks for your help so far, top man!!

I'm not sure how the rev counters work in 300s but you might have to play around with resistors to get the correct current flowing into the aftermarket one.

regardless of rev counter or not there is a feed signal there.

As i had one fitted in my 340.

the conection block if your sat int he car facing the cluster is the left hand side one one closest to the centre console.

you can take both light feed and power and signal from that block if you carefull.

And speedy no need for resistors AFAIK. i didnt need any. the car will only roughly rev to 7200RPM

it depends on your modelyear and on some years car trim level whether the revsignal wire is in the engine bay harness!

I didn't realise it would be this difficult!

Kaos, what do you mean if I'm careful?

If it's any help, I have an economy guage and a temp guage in my clocks aswell. Would this make it more complicated finding the right wires? :s

thanks for all your help so far :)

By being carefull i mean just watch where your pluging and cutting. as you can damage the senders in the rev counter.

espesially if you dont have a wire diagram for your unit. the colours i listed in my first post relate more to my rev counter, yours could be the same it could be different.

just be careful.
