Re: 340 turbo what problems
- modify std 340 sump with an turbo oil return and another return for the crankcasebreather system.
- use std volvo waterpump, alternator, crankpully
- use std volvo engine mounts
- use std volvo bellhousing/stater motor/flywheel/clutchparts
- re-locating turbo with custom exhaust manifold
- new oil/water feeds for/to turbo
- offcourse, fabricating intercooler system
- 5gtt experts strongly recommend a sandwichplate + additional oil cooler system!!!
- if you use over 0,5bar boost you'll need an uprated clutch (sachs paddleplate)
- use 5GTT ignition unit! (the one that comes with the engine)
- use 5gtt fuel parts (electric fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, carb etc)
and those are the biggest problems all by all. i'm busy with one at the moment, but i've converted the standard B14 with all the GTT parts, the engine block is identical for C1J-B14 (there's even a renault mark on the B14!!) see my project link on here:

Re: 340 turbo what problems
1986, that will probably be a B14.4E and that engine is allready equipped with a Renix ignition system. so yes that is factory pre-wired! however you'll have to check the amount of connectors going into the unit on both the gtt and the 340. for making the unit work, it needs a 3p connector and a 2p connector. when a third connector is plugged in, the ignition is set either 3 or 6 degrees extra before tdc. if there are wires in that third connector in the gtt chassis, you'll just have to use that same connector and ground these wires in the volvo chassis.
you can keep the heater system if you run a custom exhaust manifold. this will be the best solution since all the oil, coolant and intercooler hoses will be a rediculous mess with the standard manifold.
oh and since it is a mk3 you'll need to swap the front enginesupport mount from the std b14 to the gtt engine, just 2 bolts so don't bother about that.
