Driveshaft to hub

Post by 340storz » 03 Apr 2011 09:35 pm

Hi

I just bought Scratterdans 340 and managed to have a fun drive home, bar the 6 allen key bolts snapping that connect the rear driveshaft to the hub. I've managed to get three of the 6 out and replace with some M8 bolts I had lying around which should get me to the garage. They look like an M8 cap head approx 50mm long with a 20mm shoulder.
Would anyone know if these are special bolts in any way (ie high tensile) or can I just replace with some high quality stainless ones bought from the local machine shop.
I'm also looking for somewhere to source the 3 plates (and bolts if it is best to use Volvo oem ones) that the bolts sit through as these have gone flying off down the road somewhere.

Any help on where to source these parts would be much appreciated!

that's for the propshaft

the driveshaft bolts are longer, M8x60 or sth in that area, don't know for sure.. they also definatly are high tensile, 10.9 or 12.8, don't know that for sure either  .
i might go to my garage this evening, i'll take a closer look at them.

Thanks for the help guys

Sorry for the late reply, I had to take it to the garage to get three of the remaining bolts drilled out and helicoiled. Its all up and running with the correct spec bolts fitted.

Just noticed the lowering blocks have been fitted with the U style bolts, so guess I'll have something else to sort this weekend.....

Thanks again

Its an unusual problem AFAIK, I would aim to replace the drive flange the next time you have it apart. Once a bit of corrosion hits the new bolts they will probably pull the helicoils out on removal.

Cheers for the heads up, I'll keep my eyes peeled for one next time I'm at the Scrappers. I'm gonna have to strip it at some point and properly sort the back end out soon.
