Dodgy starts

Post by jjonn » 13 Dec 2011 09:01 pm

Hi again all, i do not mean to "spam" the forum, but i have been away a while.

Ok, my old girl ALWAYS starts, and has no problem running. But sometimes she takes a while to fire, and i get quite a bit of smoke from the exhaust. This happens most when i have been driving for over an hour, park, then restart within a half hour of parking.

I don't mind so much, she IS old, but i wonder why this is happening, and if there is anything i can do ( I am NOT equiped with even basic tools etc ). Also, she looks perfect, but sometimes it is a little embarrasing when this happens.

Any ideas? She has new plugs, leads, oil and fuel filters. And she has been like this since i got her ( acquired at 5, now 22 k, and ALWAYS starts eventually ).

Many thx in advance maniacs .

Too much fuel, mine used to do it too. Check carb float heights  Unfortunatly basic tools are needed for this.
