16v swap imobilizer issue

Post by tomsdubwerks » 07 Jan 2011 08:48 pm

Hey everyone hoping to have my 340 running very soon but I've struck on a serious issue. The F7P 1.8 16v came out of a phase 2 1996 Clio which had an imobilizer module behind the dash. I've saved the dash looms, the module and the key but not the aerial for the system!

Been engine thru the engine loom recently and I've traced most of the wires but Haynes, Autodata and even a Renault CD's wiring diagrams don't show 4 of the wires on the engine loom and I'm missing some of the pin data for the ecu and its plug.

My question therefore is will it start with the imobilizer module removed from the system or is the module coded to the ecu like a Rover MEMS system for example?

I'm not too sure on that one, I would expect thinking about the loom on clios that cutting it out wouldn't be a big issue. However, before you go cutting I'd either ask on the renault forums or adam on here as he'd have a much better idea.

Just use the engine bay loom from the diner car. That way it eliminates the immobilizer.

Nice one Adam. I was hoping that was the solution, everything was crossed!

I'm pretty certain if you use the engine bay loom only you need the early ECU too.... though I could be wrong. I've found 101's (19 16V, seemingly some clios but never seen it) and 103's dont work in my car, only 105's and 107's

We've had similar problems in 96 B230FTs 360 conversions. I'd say in 1996 there was little data comms betweeen modules and the Clio will just be a relay system that is easily bypassed. ie the immobiliser unit is quite separate from the rest of the car systems and is coded only to the key (like the 96 940).

I just found the RFID module and opened it up, traced the PCB to the relay and then was able to deduce the 2 wires to be shorted in the plug.

Just saw a mate who's into clio's and he's dead certain that the phase 2 ecu wont run it without the module connected or having the phase 2 ecu decoded. He does have a lovely phase 1 ecu I can borrow he just doesn't know that yet!

Mine was running a phase 2 ecu fine.

Finally got mine running today! But only for like 5 seconds! Fairly certain it's immobilized.... bugger! I think Chris_C could be right about the 101's and 103's not working without their module and key fob, only 105's and 107's will run without? I'll check my ecu numbers out tomorrow. Interestingly autodata doesnt show any anti-theft system wiring on it's F7P diagrams....Perhaps Renault didn't share the info.

Yup its deffo immobilized! ECU number ends 103! Time to look for a 105 or 107. I'm guessing the two wires/pins autodata lists for the air con and give "no test data available or random digital signal" are actually from the anti theft module to the ECU! As why would air con need a random digital signal.... Bring back points, condensors and carbs haha
