340 1.7 idling problems and hard to start when hot

Post by erixtar1992 » 21 Feb 2012 04:18 pm

hi, my 340 doesent idle too great when its warm. when you start it from cold it starts straight away and idles lovely, as soon as it gets warm it will idle like normal and then all of a sudden either start idling quite high, or randomly idle slowly. does it every now and again. also it takes quite a while to start it when hot?

ive had a play with the carb but it still does it. also the carbs not loose.

ALSO, if i press the clutch down, the idle speed rises! wierd!

any ideas guys?

eric

air leaks at the bottom of the carb due to warpage of the manifold?

just noticed, when i switch the engine off, the carb still lets quite a large amount of fuel through into the inlet, you can see the amoun of fueel rising if you look down the carb! could this be the reason it doesent start when hot? as its flooding the engine? any ideas why its doing this and if its normal? im getting about 20mpg!

if your idle screew is too far in, it could be running lean hence the rough idling - try adjust the running with the throttle stop screw rather than the mixture as i had this problem earlier on!
