clutch takes a moment to grab

Post by deleted » 16 Jan 2006 06:42 pm

hello, this has been happening ever seince i picked up this car, basically when shifting gear, clutch in, put into gear, clutch out, throttle.

for a moment the revs go up slightly beforethe clutch fully grabs

the car had done 130k at the time i got it, now its done 144, same thing happening, i just assumed the clutch was on its way out,
but could it be a matter of inccorect adjustment??

Could be. Had a similar problem on one of my 205s and it was just a case of adjusting the cable. Where's your bite point?

I have rather new clutch (driven under 15 000km) and it still does it, adjusting clutch cable seemed not to help, I ordered clutch and all parts that are easily changeable to be changed at same time.

Mostly this is happening when shifting to 3rd and sometimes when shifting to 2nd too, always on upshifts.

Could be thrust bearing getting stuck on the shaft in the gearbox but you say you changed the whole kit, i always grease up the shaft when i change a clutch on anything, that could help, but if not then it has to be the cable needs adjusting or is stretched! mine used to do it but the clutch was on its way out, i found out by sticking it in 5th, and pulling away up a very big hill on red line and it popped b4 it got 10metres :D
if it dont go sideways, Make it!

clutch slipping

Post by brad360 » 11 Mar 2006 12:18 pm

I had that problem about a month or so after I bought mine at 138000km. It was slipping severely, I had to take off very slowly on flat roads, I doubt it would have gone up hill. It did it at about 10 sets of lights and then the problem vanished hopefully never to be seen again. In fact, the next day or two is was doing it a little, it was suggested by someone here that it might have been an oil leak, which makes sense if the problem slowly went away (oil burnt up?). It had been raining very heavily, i wondered if water might have got in there somehow. Let us all know how yours goes and if there is a solution.
