340 Engine conversion - 1.8 16v

Post by arj256 » 16 Mar 2006 10:36 pm

Hello, i was thinking of getting a 340 as a project car to put the F7P - 1.8 16v engine from the Clio 16v into it.

Has anybody done this before? if so is there any information/pics?
Can you use the clios engine mounts or would you have to use the volvo ones?
How does the driveshaft mate up with with gearbox etc?

Thanks.

Do you know much about the 300 series mate?
Like the 300 transmission is engine with clutch inside bellhousing, then prop and transaxle.
An easy conversion is the renault engines used in the volvo 440's such as the 1.6, 1.8, 1.7turbo and a 2.0.

Yep Nev is doing this conversion and plans to show the build in the near future, afaik the engine mounts are on the sump so you have to use the sump from the 340 1.7

The big problem most of us would have is making the manifold as you can not use the original one.

As far as I'm aware the 1.8 16v motor (also found in the R19 16v, amoungst other things) is a drop-in, albeit probably an interesting hybrid of mounting parts are required. At an educated guess the bellhousing pattern is the same. A friend put one of these in his 440 (in place of an F2n), so it's perfectly possible.

cheers
