Local help required for 1.7 DL

Post by Bob » 22 May 2006 01:04 am

Asking a big favor. My 340 1.7 DL has now done 1200 miles in my ownership. However I have a small problem.

From cold it starts fine with the choke. Once warm and you take the choke off it still runs fine once you lift the rev's. In taffic it hunts and you need to catch it just right to pull away.

Also starting when warm is a pig. It does start but it uses a load of fuel.

I need someone who knows what there doing to have a look please. I personaly feel it's something to do with the choke. Not sure that it's fully off when it's pushed in.

I'm not an idiot regarding engine's but I'm not sure and it's my get to work transport. I could make it a lot worse.

If you feel you can help please send me a PM.

Thanks.

Bob.

Its one of two problems. Either the dizzy cap is worn and needs replacing, or the carb base/inlet manifold flange has warped causing air leaks.

I'm guessing you're using the choke to keep it going once it starts going funny, so I'm plumping for the air leak option. The way to confirm this is to spray WD-40 round the carb base whilst the engine is idling, if the spluttering stops momentarily when you're spraying you found the problem.

Have you had a look on my thread trying to get my 1.7 running? http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... php?t=2864

It's bit of a mish mash by the end, but should detail what was done. The problem with mine was that there was more than a single thing wrong at any one time, and I'll probably also have a different carb to yours, I have a replacement made by weber. If any of the symptons sound the same, then I'll be able to tell you what cured mine.

hi 1 other thing that i have come across is that the second choke can stick
with the air filter off you can open the throttle wide and see if the second choke opens if it does open make sure that it returns all the way closed
