Engine from 760, is it posible?

Post by unicata » 12 Feb 2007 03:43 pm

I think of changing the engine wit some 2.3 16V or turbo, so i found a 760 2.3 turbo(177hp - i think) but i'm not sure will it fit.
I know that 2.3l from 740 will fit but this is with automatic gearbox and the engine is B23ET, so i'm wondering will if fit like the B 230?
is it easy to change the engines?
I know there is topic about engine changing but i don't remember if there were word of B23ET.

The engine will fit in.

You could have some trouble with clearance between the engine mount and turbo.

If the turbo engine is from an auto you will need to change the flywheel and fit the bearing into the crank.

No major problems at all - the block is the same

I plan to use the flywheel from the 760, need it because of the ignition.

With the stock exhaust manifolod the turbo will take in the engine mount(sorry bad english  ). You can use a 940 exhaustmanifold, and it got better flow too. Another option is welding yourself a adapter between manifold and turbo who get the turbo a little bit up from the engine mount. Or you can of course weld yourself a new exhausmanifold.

Changing gearbox is priority number 1 when torque is over 400nm then is approximately 1 accleration and you need a new gearbox and diff.
I would say that if you keep power around 200 bhp then you can drive it quite safely. but i am not an expert so if someone has better knowledge about this matter can tell what happens and when happens

Hello from north of Danube,

I am really curious to see some pictures of your car, powered by that beast engine having 177 HP. When do you think the job will be done? I wish you good luck with the engine change.

im not doing it now, yet.
I just want to know and if it is not very dificult and expensive i'll do it
i thoght if it's need just to change the engine it's easy but buying a differential and gearbox, thats too much for me. Can i change just the engine and nothing more?

As long as I know, it is not possible to change the original engine with a such powerfull one. I think it will be necessary many other modifications, in order to be sure the car will function as it should be. In my opinion, if you would like to have more power than a B14 or B17 engine gives, you shall choose a B19 or B20 engine. No other engine more powerfull that these ones.
I wish you good luck!

All four cylinder B2xx and B19,B23,B21 engines have externally similar blocks. Depending of what car from is your motor. You'll have change oil pump and oil sump. Also engine management is one thing what you have to change. And probably clucth and flywheel. You'll have to modify that right side engine mount only if you are going to put a turbocharged engine under the hood.
