hi everyone, im new one here, got my self a peach of a 340, 1.7gl catalyst, iv bought her to learn to drift in, one thing imediatly apparent is the fact it drifts to the right a lot easyer than the left, oh well. iv done a few bits already, k&n and i made the exhaust come out the side just in front of the rear wheel as the back box was wrotten, iv had a few light knocks already but its to be expected with the harsh whip back when coming out of a slide to begin with.
my first question to you all is, does the 480 turbo engine fit in the 340? obviously there might be some jiggery pokery but as long as engine mounts and gear box line up it shouldnt be to much hassle??
id very much appreciate any thoughts you guys have.
cheers
Dale.

Chris C on here is in the process of doing a 1.7 Turbo conversion, so he's probably the best person to answer this. IIRC there are some clutch issues, and it needs re-wiring due to oddness of the loom on the 480.

Husky has already done it, there is a load of info that needs to be organised on it, have a search!
Block is the same, so just swap the sumps over, no need to muck around with mounts!

The most major part of the conversion will be the wiring. From some points of veiw MS is possibly quite a good option.

Lol, make that most points of view Dai

I'm tempted to drop straight onto squirt... and you'd hope I could wire it up! Still, I'm gonna try and keep it stock 400 loom and ECU as much as I can, just so I can make use of the orig plugs etc to make it neat.

I've doing that swap now in my 340.
Maybe one more day of ork and it's ready
In mt humble opinion the hardest part is the ar tubes if you do not want to spend a lot of money and you use the stock Turbo.
The propshaft is weak to...
The wiring is not hard to sort

The wiring problem is similar putting in any FI set up. The advantage of a na engine is you can go carb/s

Nah, the it's not so much a problem of hte FI setup, just the way the loom is U shaped around the engine bay. Just a lot of the wires are gonna have to be cut, lengthened etc. The actual hooking up is easy enough other than that.

Not that I know of, my dealer was talking about it the other day, said they have the same engine mounts as the late 400 TD's, so straight swap for a 400. I'm guessing it's not a nice sump swap job though, blocks different to us isn't it?
