limited slip diff options
Sorry to start a new thread, I just didnt want to bump the older ones, particularly those full of rubbish.
We have already ascertained that OE 300 series diffs are rare beyond being worth any further discussion.
I believe no one as yet makes a diff to fit directly, although quaiffe would for enough cash and numbers. Personally tho Id rather a clutch type locker than an atb.
Diffs seem to be available for the 240 rear end (dana 30 diff) in both types, so what is required to fit the 240 diff? From searching threads I gather than the bolt heads on the crownwheel need to be carefully round down to gain clearance, and a chunk of the casing needs to be ground away further. Other than that, I assume the original drive flanges can be utilised in terms of length and spline count? I assume the crownwheel is of the same diameter, or if not then the diff body is so that the 300 series crownwheel can be fitted?
lets keep this one to a purely technical discussion of what is known, links to photos of it being done etc, not a discussion on the merits of different diff types, or the rarity of decent 300 rear ends, or whether an lsd is or isnt required.
Cheers

The janitor's diff photos refer to HOR motorsport units-if that makes any difference?

I did not understand that other part was standard diff back then, I was so noobalistairolsen wrote:cheers, do the last couple of pics show a standard diff next to it?
I assume these are the now mega rare oe items?

But yes, I got standard diff with it too and that shows how it is different, I have seen 2 available and one of those I bought, however it might been same unit, my memory is bit rusty

If you see one grab it, no matter what price is, that is availability of item from my experience. If you look it you can't find it, but sometimes there might be bit of luck and someone offers one to you

Unfortainely I have no more info, that unit that I had was unused afaik, also it is suspected not to be too good for hard/track use as it might wear out quite quick.
