The turbo or 16 valve engine swaps are both good ones but quite involved. The easy engine swap is the 8 valve 2.3 for a 240 740 or 940. To spice it up some more a cam change and webbers will give a very good power improvment

The std 2.3 240 GLT lump is about 140 bhp. I'm sure James reconed on 140 BHP with his 2ltr running twin solex carbs so I would expect a similare gain on the 2.3

The b23\b23 are delivered in lots of variations with different heads, kam`s, injection\carbed etc all from approx 110hp to 136
They are also delivered with turbo, and goes up to approx 180-190hp in a b230Et or was it Ft? Don't remember
I am mostly into the N\a tuning of these engine and here in Norway. Some N\a b230\23 tuned for rally has over 330hp (2,8l on Weber's)
Easiest is to swamp to in my opinion is a carbed one, and tune it from there. The fuel emission on the injected ones are quite complicated and not the same as the 360 fuel injection. You can get one with mechanical fuel injection, K-jet. Who don't need wires but are still a head-twister sometimes when things go wrong. Bur the b23e with the k-jet are quite often used in Voc rally`e and with few mods they are looking at 160-170bhp
The best original pars for n\a tuning on a 8v b23\230, Head 531 and 405. The 530 head our beloved 360 came with, is ranked 3`rd, but it has some small ports, and not likely to get more than 200hp out of. And a nice kam is the "H" kam
Port the head, add some bigger valves, +a nice kam and put on some good tuned Weber's( 45\48 ) and you will be looking at 180-200hp
Good luck!

At the local scrappy maybe, try finding a 940 Turbo, those have the best engines.. Or else you can build on the b200, a ported head, kam and Weber's will make the 360 fast, or do as Ali an put a turbo on it

If you don't want carbs, and can get your head round a PC, look into Mega Squirt. This is an open access fully programmable fuel injection system for home build. Jani (jtbo) and Andy (Pettaw) have quite a lot of experience with it.
There's a lot online about it

Provided you have every thing with the engien there is not much else you will need. The intercooler will not fit so you will need to find one that will.
The clutch can be a bit of a problem if you are heavy footed but a combination of bits can be used (Fuse knows quite a bit on this).
The thing with the conversion is there are a few different aproches that can be taken so I suggest you search the forum and most the info can be found.

Yeah if you are heavy footed, the pressure plate from a bigger turbo Volvo can be used. If a 360 flywheel is used, you need to check that the pressure plate is from a car which has similiar flywheel as the 360 has, but also the flywheel from the donor car can be used. All other flywheels will fit in without modifications except so called "dual mass flywheel" from newer 940s with the M90 gearbox.
With the turbo pressure plate+stock 360 disc it'll hold quite nicely but if more is wanted there are Opel/VW paddle discs which will fit also, there's a topic about it, named 'Clutch info'
