lower seventy mil or so of the old volvo strut and then a complete fabrication pretty much from their up. but spec is;
mr2 spax insert; gives adjustable damping (admitadly too much)(finding a suitable insert/cheap insert caused great trouble, was going to use a golf one for a bit)
eccentric top mounts; to try and reduce the amount of castor gained
adjustable spring seat for an escort (from the wonders of rally design)
will hopefully have a couple of tapped holes in the strut for them to house some oil.
but now i need to con someone into welding them as i want them now!
1.7 tuning help - which cam and manifold?
oh and i know which mounting rubbers you mean. but the carbs/manifold don't really come too close meaning you would need long rubber section to account for this, or add some material to level it out. on a bike the manifold and carbs are pretty much touching and right next to the cylinder head meaning their is a very low moment, plus bike are very well packaged.

That pic of the coilover in pieces looks familiar!!! Where did you find info to know the MR2 insert would fit? As thats what i used, but i found that insert by pure chance.

did a bit of research on previous examples (yours included) and made some preliminary designs.
then spent about a six months emailing people and companies to try and find a cheap insert that was close to the dimensions it needed to be. kyb do a really good adjustable insert for a old celica/corolla that they made for the japanese market that shares the same dimensions... but they cost the earth!
In my search i have also found out what a disposible world we live in, as not that many manufactures make as many inserts as they used to. and instead just make a cheap sealed strut.
although i have had to alter the mr2 insert. I am not going to run the screw cap because it would make the overall length a little bit too long and i am instead going to weld a machined top cap on. i decided to do this because they are practically a brand new insert and have a good 5 years at least before they would require any maintenence. also not using the screw cap meant that i had a little bit of room at the top of the insert to mill down for the spring seat and top mount to fit.
