Fuel injection, proper cam and perhaps bit work of exhaust, I don't think it would require anything more.

If one can get 40hp more from B200K with installing proper fuel injection and K-cam, I'm sure B172K benefits enough to get into 100hp range. However finding proper cam and FI parts can be bit more of searching.

I was considering the 1.8 renault egnine. But they are hard to find and quite expensive.

Where do you guys get yours from?

Thanks.

volvo 440 turbo.

conversion is manageble, certainly if you already have the 1.7 car.

(lots of bits and pieces need to be built over)

the turbo is 1.7 8v aswell; if you remove the manifolds etc its hard to see the difference between it and the original 1.7.

personally I would have more respect for a EFI + cam setup on the original block, than if you would just slam in a 2.0 from a volvo 460. (that fits as well, just that you know it;) )

Renault 19:
1.7ie "F3N" (1721 cc) 8-valve multipoint injection, 107 bhp (80 kW/108 PS); top speed: 190 km/h (118 mph)

Take cam from that and put fuel injection and you should have somewhere close to 100hp or even more, that F3N should be enough close to B172K, imo. Also I believe that carb is something that holds engine back quite a lot, with fuel injection you should get lot more responsiveness to engine.

Or you can always swap whole engine

I really recommend programmable fuel injection, it just makes things easier and lot more fun.

But then, is it anymore car without luxuries like sufficient bhp? ;)

The 460 is a straight swap? Does everything bolt on or is any fab work needed.

Although the renault 16v does seem the most cost effective solution.

There is one guy on driftworks who has a swapped to a 440 turbo engine, here: http://www.driftworks.com/forum/drift-c ... turbo.html
seems like you need to fabricate manifold etc etc! Its got to be a easy-er job with the 1,8 16v. As its done so many times before. And you get the sound of a screaming Na too, and that cant be to bad

Thanks guys. I will be on the lookout for a Clio 16v. That is the most logical solution.

Thanks

I haven't been on here in a while otherwise i would have replied sooner...

I haven't built my engine up yet as i still need to get an mot done pretty soon and am already worried about the emmisons :( but i too am planning on trying to tune the 1.7 a little. i'm planning on running some bike carbs (cos i got them free) a 4-2-1 manifold and a slightly up rated cam. no idea what power it'll produce tho.

But any way...
I've got a 237 duration cam with a little more lift (224 as standard if memory serves me right) from a 1.7 volvo 480 which will fit, but has no take off for the fuel pump. The one to go for is one from a 1.7 480ES as it has the longest duration and is nearly as good as the rally cams that cat cams sell (using OEM parts, they also do some mad high lift ones) but i couldn't manage to find one from the 480ES.

but its worth looking at renault's for tuning parts, for example the clio rsi uses an evolution of the f-series renault engine and parts are fairly easily avaliable. Plus some old formula renault's used f-series engines and they got alot of power out of them in 2l guise.
If not 2l laguna engine?

all food for thought, a little searching and you'll find something

Cool. Thats what I was looking for. Dont want to spend loads of money. Just cheap OEM upgrades is what I was looking for.

I will be on the lookout for the cam. Thanks.

Also I have heard you can put the 16v head on it with injection? Is that easy? whats involved?

never heard anything before about fitting a 16v head to these engines but i'm sure its possible. Which head? i don't kno of a 16v engine's head which will fit.

i would be very tempted to go injection as once its all on you can leave it alone. You'll just need to do a bit of research first to see whats been done before. Also it might be worth taking a look at a few renault forums as they may give more ideas as to whats possible and cheap.
it may be worth pickin up parts from the clio rsi providing the engine has the same stroke and they just bored it a little to take it up to its 1.8l guise. because they ran 115bhp as standard (what parkers says) so you could probably get 100bhp relativly easily... no idea if it'll work tho haven't really looked into it.

Sorry if this sounds vague but a mate of mine said the Volvo 440 N/A head is a direct fit. Not sure where he got that info.

You CANNOT bolt a 16v head to an 8v bottom end without modifying the head. just to clear things up.
