I've an 89 340DL with a very noisey clutch release bearing. I've been quoted over £200.00 to replace this (including a new clutch) by a local mechanic. Bearing in mind the m.o.t. has just run out as well, it don't seem viable to have it fixed. Or in peoples opinion, am I being stiched up by the mechanics quote, if I take it up that is. I could buy another car for £250, but it seems a shame to mabey scrap a not bad little car. Any advice appreaciated, thanks Shaun.

i paid £150 to have mine done when it poped when i first had my car.
that included the clutch kit( expensive) and the chap to fit it. to do it yourself isawkward really unless you like crawling arround on the floor?

Heya, where abouts in Oxfordshire are you, as I'm very near the Bucks/Oxfordshire border if I can help. To be honest that's not a bad price for everything that is involved, and to get another car at £250, you may find other things wrong that might cost more, sometimes better the devil you know and all that!

Usually is better to stick with a car you know, if you like it. It's a pretty fiddly job so the price is reasonable.
(not that you should, but if you ever decide to scrap it, could I pinch the diff off it supposing its a 5 speed

I was very tempted by a 240 saloon, but due to the current rip off petrol prices, I've had my 340 clutch done. Flew through the mot as well. Not bad for a 19 year old car that's never, ever been welded.

my 340 has had no welding, is in okay condition part from the few rust spots i had to fix the other day. and flys through mots when it makes it to them( 16v conversion still nto fully working properly!)
