Post by volvosaurus » 13 May 2009 03:42 am

Hello lately i have been think about the possibility of boring out a 2L to a 2.1L just wondering if it is possible? also what is the maximum shave you can do to a 405 head?

What engine you have? B200 or B19? Both are possible to bore out, but it is easier and cheaper to change straight to b23/b230.

Whit b19 you can use b21 pistons.

B200 there ain't anything pistons from volvo engines avaible. I have heard that 92mm aftermarket pistons for beetle(air engined) are used, but those need some kind bushing to fit to volvos rod.

I thought that the B19 and B200 has the same wrist pin sizes??? The only change I was aware of was the smaller rods.

I should have a set of B21 pistons about or you could go all the way to 2.3

b19-23: 24mm
b2x0: 23mm

Easiest way to get bigger is buying b230f engine or just bottom end. Some parts need to take from old engine to make everything work, but rest is plug 'n' play.

B200 and B230 block look exact same outside, but both have only b200 or b230 mark on side of block. Remove that b230 text from block and paint it and no one can say which one that is without removing cylinder head. And only volvo enthusiast will realise that.

But if you want bore out, use those air cooled vw's 92mm mahles. Even them aint bolt on, them are cheap. Compression height need to be 39,6mm. Little work needed, but any motor works shop should be able to do those.
