Fuel economy
Re: Fuel economy
Short but complete tutorial on converting fuel consumption, if you're too lazy to google for a conversion calculator:
From MPG(uk) to l/100 km :
Divide 282.5 by the MPG value. For example, 282.5 / 30 = about 9.4 l/100 km. (You can even use 283 or 280 instead of 282.5, both are close enough for most purposes).
From l/100 km to MPG(uk) :
Again divide 282.5 by the l/100 km value. For example, 282.5 / 9.4 = about 30 MPG, as expected.
From l/100 km to km/l (and vice versa) should be easy to figure out but here it is anyway:
Divide 100 by value to convert. 100 / 9 = 11.1, so 9 l/100 km = 11.1 km/l, and also 9 km/l is 11.1 l/100 km.
From km/l directly to MPG: multiply by 2.825. From MPG directly to km/l : divide by 2.825. Again you can use 2.83 or 2.8 if it's easier to remember.

Re: Fuel economy
No idea, my 343 had points and a condensor too so I would've thought a Renix equiped car would be better. I still wasn't that impressed with it's economy - it ended up around the same as my 940 turbo and S40 T4, both of which had a lot more powervolvosneverdie wrote: dude, how did you get 30 out of the 1.4??
whats wrong with mine is probably a better question mind. Think a carb service is long overdue.
This is going to be fun.

Would definitely recommend replacing all the consumable service items (leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm etc) as that's all I did to mine really! If you've already done that then I guess carb issues?

Re: Fuel economy
Every consumable looks in good order so i havnt changed anything since initiall service when i got it like. Pops did that and he'd have pulled anything that looked even half iffy.
Got to be the carb.

Re: Fuel economy
I concur on your 2.0i figures - 25mpg for normal driving. Normal for me anyway - I drive quite hard. 35mpg if you really nurse it.SteveP wrote:My 360's however rarely did much over 32mpg, most of the time mid 20's. I drove back from Leeds a few years back at 60mph and my first GLt returned 36mpg, it was boring though
Re: Fuel economy
You should fairly easily be able to get 30mpg out of a 1.4 on a run, if you're getting 14, then you've got serious carb problems, most likely maladjustment of the float height, together with idle mixture out of tune or dirty throttle plates, but if it passed its MOT emissions check then I'd check the float height first.
Also is your vacuum advance mech connected to the Renix and working properly? The plastic connector on the Renix vacuum diaphragm can snap off. Just make sure its connected at both ends, then unplug it from the carb end. Run the car at 2500 rpm and reconnect. The revs should rise. Oh, and you do have the correct Renix system installed in the car don't you? If someone's had a fiddle it may well be the wrong one with the wrong timing map. There's a sticky post somewhere.

Renix is origonal and correct.
I'll get to checking the other possible issues you mentioned.
Cheers again Pettaw.
